Today, November 10, 2017, marks the centenary of the end of the Battle of Passchendaele, a chilling name which for contemporaries became synonymous with the agonies of the First World War. Why was this battle fought, what did the Canadians achieve in this terrible struggle, and what do we make of the efforts and sacrifice of the soldiers driven to the limits of human endurance?
In commemoration of this 100th anniversary, historian Eric McGeer will consider these questions in a lecture entitled “Passchendaele A Hundred Years On” tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Cameron Hall at Yorkminster Park Church (Yonge and St. Clair). There is no charge to attend and all are welcome. More details are in the attached poster and also at http://www.yorkminsterpark.com
